The Alcona County Review does not charge for an obituary if it contains the information that the publisher requires (see required fields). Most of the required, vital information of the decedent is on the death certificate (which becomes public information once it is filed). The Review also tries to gather as much information about the person’s life as possible – marriage, career, military service, interests, survivors (first and last names), etc. -- as possible to share what their life entailed. An obituary reflects the person’s life – as presented in a newspaper. We make this effort because, while the death of the person is considered news at the time of their passing, a full obituary with vital information also serves as a connection to the future as many people use obituaries to research family history – which is a very popular pursuit these days. Any other type of announcement/memorial about a person’s passing is a personal message, and, therefore, is considered advertising. If you have any questions or would like to place a paid memorial in the Alcona County Review, please call (989) 724-6384 or 877-873-8439. Thank you. |
