Crime Beat
by John D. Boufford (Editor), Cheryl L. Peterson (Editor)
19th century Alcona County in many respects compared to the wild west that Hollywood made famous. With crime of all sorts occurring. Shootings, rape, bank robberies, safe cracking’s and general mayhem. In 1897 Mrs. Robert Dobson shot W. James Anderson on Main St. in Harrisville. In 1909 a Glennie bank robbery attempt ended with the teller shot, one robber badly wounded and a second robber in custody. And of course, where there were lumber camps, houses of ill repute were not far away to separate the woodsmen from their pay. All being recorded in the pages of the Alcona County Review.
